Years 5 and 6 are a period of consolidation and extension. Our curriculum builds on the foundations established in earlier years, deepening students’ knowledge across literacy, numeracy, science, and the humanities. Lessons are designed to stretch thinking, develop independent study skills, and encourage students to apply what they learn in meaningful ways, preparing them well for the demands of secondary education.
At AICC, Islamic values remain woven into everyday learning. Students in Years 5 and 6 are encouraged to reflect more deeply on their faith, taking on greater responsibility as role models within the school community. Guided by our Islamic Ethos, they continue to develop a strong moral compass and a clear sense of who they are and what they stand for.
We recognise that every student learns differently, and our teachers provide the attention and support each child needs to flourish. In Years 5 and 6, we focus on building confidence, resilience, and the self-direction students will rely on as they move towards secondary school, ensuring no learner is left behind and every student is appropriately challenged.
We monitor each student’s progress closely through ongoing classroom assessment, reading benchmarks, and standardised testing such as PAT and Essential Assessments. Parents receive
regular reports and meet with teachers throughout the year, with results available through Compass. Where a student would benefit from additional support or extension, our diagnostic assessments and intervention programs, including literacy, numeracy, and speech pathology support, help ensure they receive the right help at the right time.
Our classrooms are dynamic, well-resourced spaces that make use of modern technology to enrich learning. We employ teaching methods that keep students engaged and curious, encouraging collaboration, problem-solving, and a genuine love of learning that carries beyond the classroom.
The partnership between home and school remains central as students grow more independent. Through regular communication and involvement, parents stay closely connected to their child’s progress, and together we provide the consistent support each student needs for a well-rounded educational journey.
