Year 7

Year 7 at AICC

Beginning the Secondary Journey

Year 7 marks an exciting milestone as the first year of secondary education at AICC. Students step into a more structured learning environment, working with specialist teachers across a broader range of subjects and taking greater responsibility for their own progress. We support every student through this transition with care, ensuring they feel confident, settled, and ready to thrive in their secondary years, all within a safe and Islamic values-driven environment.

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum

In Year 7, students study the full range of subjects under the Victorian Curriculum, taught by specialist teachers: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities (History, Geography, Civics, and Economics), Health and Physical Education, the Arts (Visual Arts and Drama), and Technologies, including coding and design. Alongside these, our students study Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, and Quran Recitation as an integral part of their week.

Learning is rich and connected. Students might craft a short story drawing on tales from the Quran and beyond, investigate the liveability of their own school through geographic fieldwork, design and test a program in Python, or explore the science of ecosystems and forces through hands-on investigation. Across every subject, Islamic perspectives and values are woven naturally into the learning.

Academic Excellence

Year 7 introduces students to the depth and breadth of secondary study. Specialist teaching, increased academic expectations, and a focus on strong study habits lay firm foundations for success in the years ahead. Students learn to manage a fuller timetable, organise their own work, and think critically across a widening range of disciplines.

Islamic Values Integration

As students grow into young adults, AICC’s Islamic Ethos continues to guide their learning and conduct. Year 7 students are encouraged to engage thoughtfully with their faith, developing the maturity, integrity, and sense of responsibility that define a well-rounded young Muslim. Faith and learning go hand in hand throughout the school day.

Individualised Attention

The move to secondary school can be a significant step, and our teachers provide the guidance and individual attention each student needs to settle and succeed. We focus on building confidence, independence, and organisational skills, creating a supportive environment where every Year 7 student can reach their full potential.

Engaging Environment

Year 7 students learn in well-equipped, modern spaces designed to support a richer and more varied curriculum. Our teaching methods encourage active participation, critical thinking, and collaboration, helping students develop the skills and attitudes that underpin lifelong learning.

Assessment, Reporting and Support

We monitor each student’s progress carefully through a combination of classroom assessment, formal examinations, and standardised testing, including NAPLAN and PAT. Parents receive regular progress reports and meet with teachers at scheduled interviews throughout the year, with ongoing results available through Compass. Where students need extra support or extension, our diagnostic assessments and intervention programs ensure they receive the right help at the right time.

Parental Involvement

A strong home and school partnership is especially valuable during the transition to secondary school. Through regular communication, reporting, and involvement, parents remain key partners in their child’s education, working alongside our staff to ensure each student is well supported.

Targets for Growth

AICC sets ambitious targets for continuous growth, monitoring student progress, wellbeing, and the views of our families and staff. We celebrate every achievement and remain committed to ensuring each Year 7 student begins their secondary journey academically strong, personally confident, and grounded in faith.
